Does GMVoice work on iPhone and Android? Do I need the dongle?

By Peter Fridrich · Updated September 4, 2026

Yes on both. GMVoice is published on the App Store and on Google Play. iOS connects directly to the Gym Monster over Wi-Fi, exactly like Android, so you can just pair and go. Android can also connect over Bluetooth. The dongle is optional on both platforms.

Get started on your phone

The app is the same product on both platforms, and the connection step is the same too. What differs is the assistant integration: iPhone gets Siri Shortcuts with weight actions, while Android exposes two Google Assistant actions, Barbell On and Long Press.

  1. Install GMVoice from the App Store on iPhone or Google Play on Android.
  2. Open the app and connect it to your Gym Monster over Wi-Fi.
  3. On Android, use Bluetooth instead if that suits your setup better.
  4. On iPhone, add Siri Shortcuts for Turn On, Long Press and weight changes.
  5. On Android, try the Google Assistant actions Barbell On and Long Press.

Do I need the dongle on iPhone?

No, not anymore. iOS now connects directly to the Gym Monster over Wi-Fi, exactly like Android, so you can just pair and go. The GMVoice dongle is optional, but it is recommended for the lowest latency on every command, true plug-and-play setup, and dongle-only ring actions such as Skip, Long Press and Double Press.

Do Android users need the dongle?

No. Android connects directly to the Gym Monster over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, so a GMVoice dongle is not required. Basic voice commands such as Turn On, Turn Off and Change Weight work normally. The dongle still adds the lowest latency and ring-like actions such as Skip, Long Press and Double Press.

Still not working?

Record a Field Debug session in the GMVoice app so the problem can be diagnosed from the real audio instead of a description, then write to contact@gmvoice.tech. The step-by-step instructions are in How to Record a Field Debug Session in GMVoice.
