GMVoice on iPhone can work with Apple Siri Shortcuts, so you can control your Speediance Gym Monster with phrases like "Hey Siri, add 3 kilograms in GMVoice" or "Hey Siri, Turn On".
This guide is only for iOS. It explains what to do before the first Shortcut, which GMVoice actions are available, and how to set up the actions that need Siri to ask you for a weight value.
Before You Use Shortcuts
Before opening Apple Shortcuts for the first time, open the GMVoice app and connect it to your Gym Monster setup. This first connection matters because it lets iOS see the GMVoice actions correctly inside the Shortcuts app.
The short version is:
- Install or update GMVoice on your iPhone.
- Open the GMVoice app.
- Connect GMVoice to your Gym Monster.
- After that, open the Apple Shortcuts app and search for GMVoice.
Important: if GMVoice does not appear in Apple Shortcuts, go back to the GMVoice app, connect to the Gym Monster again, and then reopen Shortcuts.
Available GMVoice Shortcuts
In Apple Shortcuts, search for GMVoice. You should see these actions:
- Turn On
- Long Press
- Add Kilograms or Add Pounds
- Remove Kilograms or Remove Pounds
- Change Kilograms or Change Pounds
Basic Siri Phrases
Once the shortcuts are added, these are the typical phrases:
Hey Siri, Turn OnHey Siri, add 3 kilograms in GMVoiceHey Siri, add 7 kilograms in GMVoiceHey Siri, add 3 pounds in GMVoiceHey Siri, remove 7 kilograms in GMVoiceHey Siri, remove 3 pounds in GMVoiceHey Siri, change kilograms in GMVoice, then say10 kilograms, then15 kilograms.Hey Siri, change pounds in GMVoice, then say10 pounds, then15 pounds.
Set Up Turn On and Long Press
Turn On is the simplest shortcut. Open Apple Shortcuts, find GMVoice, choose Turn On, and add it to your shortcuts. After that you can say:
Hey Siri, Turn On
You can also rename the shortcut to something more natural. For example, rename it to Barbell On and then say:
Hey Siri, Barbell On
Long Press works the same way. Add the GMVoice Long Press action to your shortcuts, then keep the default name or rename it to the phrase you want to use during training.
Set Up Add or Remove Kilograms and Pounds
For add and remove commands, create the shortcut for the unit you actually use. If you train in kilograms, add Add Kilograms and Remove Kilograms. If you train in pounds, add Add Pounds and Remove Pounds.
The key setup step is the input. In the shortcut editor, set the weight input to Always Ask. On some iOS versions this can appear as Ask Each Time.
After that, Siri can capture the number from your voice:
Hey Siri, add 3 kilograms in GMVoiceHey Siri, add 7 kilograms in GMVoiceHey Siri, add 3 pounds in GMVoiceHey Siri, remove 7 kilograms in GMVoiceHey Siri, remove 3 pounds in GMVoice
Set Up Change Kilograms or Pounds
Use Change Kilograms or Change Pounds when you want to change from one exact weight to another exact weight.
Add the shortcut, open its settings, and set the inputs to Always Ask. This lets Siri ask for the first value and then the second value.
Example in kilograms:
- Say
Hey Siri, change kilograms in GMVoice. - When Siri asks for the first value, say
10 kilograms. - When Siri asks for the next value, say
15 kilograms.
Example in pounds:
- Say
Hey Siri, change pounds in GMVoice. - When Siri asks for the first value, say
10 pounds. - When Siri asks for the next value, say
15 pounds.
Naming Tips
- Keep names short. Siri is easier to use when the phrase is something you can say during a set.
- Add GMVoice to weight phrases. Phrases like "add 3 kilograms in GMVoice" help Siri route the command to the right app.
- Rename if Siri conflicts. If "Turn On" triggers a smart home device, rename the shortcut to something unique like "Barbell On".
- Use the same unit every time. If you set up kilograms, say kilograms. If you set up pounds, say pounds.
Troubleshooting
- GMVoice is missing in Shortcuts: open GMVoice first, connect it to the Gym Monster, then reopen Apple Shortcuts.
- Siri asks for a number but nothing changes: check that the shortcut uses the correct unit and that the input is set to Always Ask.
- Siri runs the wrong shortcut: rename the shortcut to a more specific phrase.
- The command works once but not during training: make sure the GMVoice app is still connected to your Gym Monster before starting the workout.
