How do I pair the GMVoice dongle with my phone and Gym Monster?

By Peter Fridrich · Updated September 4, 2026

The dongle is flashed once, then plugged into the Gym Monster over USB, then paired from the GMVoice app on your phone. Flashing happens in your browser at flash.gmvoice.tech, so no coding knowledge is needed. After that, the Dongle API toggle in GMVoice Settings routes commands through the dongle.

Pair it step by step

Flashing turns a generic dev board into a GMVoice device. It runs in your browser, takes seconds, and needs no coding knowledge. After flashing you connect the dongle to the Gym Monster with the same USB cable, connect the app to it, and install the Dongle API from GMVoice Settings.

  1. Buy a blank compatible device, an M5Stick S3 or an M5Stack AtomS3U.
  2. Connect it by USB to your Mac, Windows PC or Linux machine.
  3. Open flash.gmvoice.tech, select your hardware model, and click Flash.
  4. Connect your USB hub to the Gym Monster, then plug the dongle into the hub.
  5. Open the GMVoice app on your phone and connect it to the dongle.
  6. In GMVoice Settings, find the GMVoice Dongle API row and tap Install.
  7. Flip the Dongle API toggle to route every command through the dongle.
  8. If the dongle does not show up in the app, restart the Gym Monster and plug the dongle in again.

Which hardware can I flash?

One compatible device is enough: an M5Stick S3 or an M5Stack AtomS3U. The M5Stick S3 is recommended because it has extra flexibility for feedback, including sound, and it is the device most people in the community pick first. Buy blank hardware through the links in the Hardware section on the home page.

Still not working?

Record a Field Debug session in the GMVoice app so the problem can be diagnosed from the real audio instead of a description, then write to contact@gmvoice.tech. The step-by-step instructions are in How to Record a Field Debug Session in GMVoice.
