Yes. GMVoice is free today, and the plan is to keep it free for as long as possible. There is no subscription. What keeps the app in development, and keeps it published on the App Store and Google Play, are donations from the people who use it.
How to start without paying anything
You need the app and a microphone setup you already own. Without a dongle you can use headphones, an external microphone such as a Boya Mini 1, or even the built-in microphone on your phone. Nothing else is required to run voice commands.
- Download GMVoice from the App Store or from Google Play.
- Use the microphone setup you already have, even the phone built-in one.
- Connect over Wi-Fi, or over Bluetooth on Android.
- Build your own dongle later if you want the lowest latency.
- Send a donation if GMVoice saves you time in the gym.
Do I have to buy the dongle?
No. A GMVoice dongle is optional, because both iPhone and Android connect over Wi-Fi, and Android also over Bluetooth. It is recommended for the lowest latency and dongle-only ring actions like Skip, Long Press and Double Press. Without it you just need any microphone setup you already prefer.
Can I buy a ready-made dongle right now?
A pre-flashed dongle is not available right now. When the next batch is ready it will be sold pre-flashed and ready to pair, so if you want one, send a short email to contact@gmvoice.tech and you will be told first. Until then you can build your own with the DIY guide.
